Maisha Armstrong, MBA
President and Founder
Maisha has a real passion for making a difference in her community. After working for years in Information Technology and Product Marketing, she left the corporate world for service in the nonprofit sector. She is committed to using her skills and abilities to help nonprofit organizations, businesses, government agencies and other organizations obtain necessary funding to achieve their goals and improve their communities.
Maisha specializes in crafting strong, mutually beneficial proposals to help organizations secure funding to meet their goals. Over the last 14 years in development, she has raised more than $20 million in corporate, foundation and government funding for organizations.
Maisha’s professional experience spans 20 years and has included positions in Development, Marketing, Product Management and Information Technology with a range of for-profit and non-profit organizations, including Ford Motor Company, i2 Inc., Children’s National Health System and Food & Friends. Prior to starting MJ Consulting Group, she was Director of Development and Communications for the DC Primary Care Association (DCPCA), responsible for implementing the development and communications activities of the organization to increase awareness and obtain funding to support the work of DCPCA.
Maisha received her B.S. in Systems and Computer Science from Howard University and her M.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Georgia.
Akia sees the development process as a catalyst for translating an organization’s mission and vision into concrete programs to serve clients and ultimately improve community. Akia specializes in using an evaluative thinking framework to assist clients not only in secure funding, but also in ensuring organizations have the appropriate controls in place to properly manage funds, execute strategies, meet their outcomes and evaluate their success. In addition to possessing 15 years of grant writing experience, Akia has managed revenue in both the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, successfully managed numerous diverse, long-term projects, and assisted organizations in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships to better serve their missions and their clients.
Akia’s professional experience includes nonprofit and philanthropic organizations large and small including Georgia Family Connection Partnership, The Annie E. Casey Foundation, The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, and CredAbility.
Akia earned a bachelor’s degrees from Clark Atlanta University in Philosophy and Political Science and an MPA as a National Urban Fellow. She is a certified project manager, holds a certificate in Entrepreneurial Thinking in the Social Sector from Babson College, is a trained Race Equity and Inclusion facilitator, and trained in Design Thinking.
Amy is an Event Maven with the knowledge and business acumen to create and implement top-notch fundraising, marketing, incentive, sponsorship activations and trade show events. She brings more than 17 years of marketing communications experience working with corporations and nonprofits to build stronger relationships and execute special projects, collaborating with stakeholders, senior executives, board members, corporate sponsors and private donors to raise awareness and promote services, products or concepts.
Amy’s professional experience includes positions in Events Management, Marketing, Community Relations and Development. She has worked for a range of for-profit and nonprofit organizations, including Mailchimp, WellCare Health Plans, CBS Radio, Habitat for Humanity, CredAbility and Russell Athletic.
Amy earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Dillard University and her MBA in Management and Strategy from Western Governors University. She received her Conference and Meeting Management Certification from the University of Georgia.
